With all due respect, I don't think it matters who will be the next challenger for Gukesh

Six-time world chess champion and one of the greatest chess players of all time, GM Garry Kasparov in an interview with the Saint Louis Chess Club shared his thoughts about the upcoming candidates.

Interviewer : Who do you think will be the next challenger for Gukesh?

Garry Kasparov : I mean as I said earlier, It's actually, with all due respect, I don't think it matters. I'm not trying to undermine Gukesh or Ding, but for me the history of the classical world championship is over with Magnus.

Because..I’m a really old fashioned and traditional. For me the world champion must be the best player in the world and if he's not, then it's a title.

No attempt to undermine what Gukesh did at such a young age and I'm not here just talking about envy, because he was younger than me. But still, it should be, it's meant to be. That’s all I say.

And having Magnus around..But we'll make it all fun, so I hope that maybe the old guard, Fabi.. or I'm not sure, if Hikaru has qualified?

Interviewer : Not yet.

Garry Kasparov : Because I’m reading some stories there. I don't know… So maybe it's time for them to accomplish.

What are your thoughts on this?
