It was the second game of the FIDE World Cup Quarter-Finals and India's last hope GM Arjun Erigaisi was all set to strike against the China no. 1 GM Wei Yi. Arjun started well and was looking sharp and got an amazing position as the Chinese star blundered on the 21st move by playing Nd7 and the whole nations hope went high.
But Arjun completely missed the opportunity to capitalise and blundered by playing Qd2 on the 24th moving which equalised the game and the players agreed for a draw in the 32nd move.
Many fans suggested that this could have been Arjun's best chance to qualify for the semis while some fans fear that Arjun might have blundered his candidate hopes.
While Arjun missed his chance, GM Yakubboev Nodirbek from Uzbekistan didn't and becomes the first player to qualify for the semi-finals of the FIDE World Cup in goa, India. Yakubboev beats Germany's only hope for the world cup winner GM Alexander Donchenko.
Can Arjun make a miraculous comeback tomorrow for the tie-breaks? We have to wait and find out.
