Its a really sad day for Indian chess fans as their last and final hope of an Indian winning the FIDE chess world cup comes to an end as the twenty-fourth participant, GM Arjun Erigaisi crashes out after losing the second game of the rapid tie-breaks.

The India no. 1 was saved big time in the first game as his opponent GM Wei Yi who is China no. 1 missed an opportunity to capitalise on a blunder and the first game ended in a draw but in the second game, he spared no expenses and crushed the life out of the game to give Arjun no chance to make a comeback. Wei Yi advances to the semi-finals and ignites China's hopes of returning to the world championship cycle. But his task won't be easy as the Uzbekistan talents are shinning brighter to take their chance against Gukesh to become the next world chess champion.

With this loss, Arjun also loses his chance to qualify for the candidates and thus will have to wait longer for the next world championship cycle.

While in the last candidates we saw three Indian's participating, as of now, not even a single Indian has been guaranteed a spot. The only hope for India is with Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa who is currently leading the FIDE Circuit leaderboard.
